How We Compare

We don't run a testing lab and we don't pretend to. Here's exactly where every number on this site comes from.

Where the numbers come from

  • Noise (dB): the manufacturer's stated decibel rating, taken from the spec sheet or product manual. Always labelled "manufacturer-stated": never presented as something we measured with a meter.
  • Footprint: published dimensions (length x width, folded and unfolded where available), cross-checked against the retailer listing.
  • Stride length: the manufacturer's stated stride, used to build our stride-by-height fit guidance.
  • Real-world picture: verified owner reviews on Amazon UK and retailer sites, and UK forum threads, used to flag where a spec sheet number doesn't match what owners actually experience (assembly difficulty, wobble at budget price points, warranty issues).

How we flag home-type fit

The green/amber/red flags in our comparison tables come from matching a machine's noise and footprint figures against what's realistic for a flat, terrace or house. This is our editorial judgement applied consistently across every machine, not a manufacturer claim.

What we don't do

  • We don't claim to have physically tested, weighed or sound-metered units ourselves. We'll say so explicitly and update every affected page if that changes.
  • We don't fabricate a freshness date. Any "updated" date shown on this site is real.
  • We don't publish an unsourced performance stat (e.g. "burns 2.5x more calories"). Every number is either sourced or removed.
  • Where a spec isn't published anywhere, we mark the cell "not published" rather than estimate it.

Affiliate relationship

We earn a commission on qualifying Amazon UK purchases through some links on this site. See the full affiliate disclosure. It never decides which machine we flag as the best fit.
